    Principal's Message

    Sept 17, 2020

    Dear Rieke Rocket community,

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend last night’s virtual Back to School Night. While it was not as celebratory and fun filled as these events should be, I hope parents were able to get answers to some of their questions during such uncertain times. I am working to add the recording (of the last 2/3rd of meeting) onto our web site. It is a large mp4 file. If you were not able to attend here is the link to the shared slide show https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1bV60jq9Diibis6QNl-tDaVi8ncI6NoMMboQ4AphhD3w/edit?usp=sharing

Video News-This week got away from me and I struggled to find the creative spark for our weekly video news. BUT, not next week. We need a show that features our fine students welcoming each other back, wishing everyone good health, exercising, showing off a new talent, or just being kids outside! Send us your pictures and landscape videos to riekenews@gmail.com or jjeans@pps.net. It is time to showcase The Rieke Way!

    Materials pickup schedule at Rieke:

Next week begins our social distance pickup of library books and any other student materials. Students can check out books from the Rieke library by following the links Ms. Vaughn has provided at https://www.pps.net/domain/2775   This link also lists the safety protocols in place.

    Library pickup schedule:

For Rieke, our pick up/book return days will be as follows:

    Grades 4-5-Wednesdays 12:00-3:00

    Grades 2-3 Thursdays 12:00-3:00

    Grades K-1 Fridays 12:00-3:00

The pick-up/returns location will be outside of the office doors, under the breezeway.

In addition, if you have yet to pick up student materials from last year, please do so! We still have many bags of classroom materials and art portfolios from last spring. We will be calling those families to let them know early next week. Also, some teachers have been putting together some packets of paper and pencil materials for students. The classroom teachers will communicate with their students if they are preparing materials for distribution during the library pickup schedule. And yes, we will be collecting food items for our backpack program at these times.

Community News from Wilson Cross Country

    WilsonXCTF Help! - Fire Evacuees

    Dear WilsonXCTF Family,

As you know, many people in Oregon have been displaced by the massive wildfires. Some are evacuating until they can safely return to their homes while others have lost everything. During this time, we would like to step up as a community and support those in need.

Personally, Coach E's 70 year old parents are camping in a field at a ranch in Washington as evacuees from the riverside fire near Estacada. They are safe and caring for their 4 dogs, 4 horses and lovely cat. The fire burned to within 1/2 a mile of their home but so far have kept their home. Many, many others are not so lucky.

Collectively, Wilson, Lincoln and Central Catholic Cross Country teams are coming together to support families within our state. We encourage you to find these items within your home or purchase them at a store.  They have requested the items be new vs. gently used

We will collect all items on Saturday (9/19) from 3-4pm at Evolution Healthcare (905 SE Ankeny).  Coaches will be present to help and support. At drop off, please wear a mask. All items will be distributed to communities who need them.

  • Technology information

    Dear Families,
As we are starting the school year online this year, access to virtual classrooms is essential. Now is the time to check that your student's login is working well for the year ahead.
For students who are in grades K-2 we have sent via post mail a QR code badge that students can hold up to the camera to log on with a chromebook or home computer. We also sent a brochure that can help explain the login process. These were recently sent so if you do not receive this by Wednesday 9/2 please call and let the office know. This badge is new this year and makes logging in easier for our younger students.

For all students K-5 -Here is how to log into the school online system:
Student Log in is:  first letter of first name, last name, last four digit of student ID number@pps.net
Student password: student birthday month (2 digits) birthday (2 digits)
    Example log-in: lgordon1234@student.pps.net
    Example password: 1112
The student's ID can be found in parent vue on the main page or you can call the Rieke office.
PPS District is offering all families to visit pps.net/fall2020 to access a full set of orientation videos and other resources, translated into our district-supported languages, to help you better understand the learning platforms students and teachers will use this fall. You will also find information on how to log on to the platforms, how to connect to the internet and other helpful tips.

If you or your student is still struggling with any of the aspects of learning technology, we hope you will call the PPS Technology Help Desk, which is open from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on school days. We will answer your questions and share information and helpful tips about anything related to distance learning technology. The Technology Help Desk is available in all PPS-supported languages. Email support@pps.net or call us:
