• Recently, the governor signed an executive order prohibiting cell phone use by students during the school day. PPS also adopted a new cell phone policy which bans cell phone use during the school day. Luckily for Robert Gray, our personal device policy that we have used for the past several years follows this new expectation, so there will not be a big change for our students, but there are a few things that are different.

    • At Robert Gray it is expected that personal electronic devices are Off, Away, and Invisible All Day. This means, students cannot have these devices on their person, at any time. They should be kept in a backpack or locker (or at home). They cannot be in pockets or anywhere else on a student's person.
    • Cell phones and smart watches are the most common personal electronic devices, and anything with internet/texting/calling capabilities count under this new policy; including watches, Fitbits, headphones, airpods, tablets, etc. These devices are NOT permitted at any time.

We know that we have a few students with disabilities and 504’s who have specific accommodations that require access to technology. We will be working with each individual student and their family to find accommodations that support the PED policy and the student's needs. We know there may be very few exceptions based upon life-threatening medical needs for some of our students.

Students may bring wired headphones to use with their Chromebooks. But they may only be used if a teacher has instructed the class to do so.

If you need to communicate with your child, call the main office and they will give your student a message. The school is not responsible for electronic devices that are broken, misplaced or stolen. Students are liable for electronic device usage according to the PPS discipline matrix.

    • The 1st time a student is caught using a personal electronic device, it will be sent to the office to be picked up at the end of the day by the student
    • The 2nd time a student is caught using a personal electronic device, it will be sent to the office to be picked up at the end of the day by a parent or guardian.
    • The 3rd time a student is caught using a personal electronic device, it will be sent to the office and the student may be required to check in their device at the beginning of the school day.

Parents, it is also a good idea to review PPS' ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY. This outlines expectations for ALL online behavior of students and the use of PPS digital accounts and networks.
