    Dana Nerenberg Dear Sitton Families:

Welcome to the new school year!  We are so excited to have the privilege of partnering with each of you this year to ensure each of our students experiences amazing learning and growth.

The first day of school is Monday, August 29, 2016.  Our Kindergartners will engage in Kindergarten assessments and parent meetings from August 29-31, 2016 and will enjoy their first full day of school on Thursday, September 1, 2016.  Please see the attached information regarding the scheduling of these meetings.

We are eager to deliver high quality learning experiences for each of our students every day and this starts with on time attendance each day!  Breakfast starts for all students at 7:45 am and class starts at 8:00 am.  School is dismissed at 2:15 pm daily.  Every child is served free breakfast and lunch through our delicious and nutritious cafeteria at school every day.  We will be providing filtered water to students throughout the day, please send your child to school with a reusable water bottle, labeled with his or her name, to minimize trash.

Each Friday we publish a family newsletter, The Sitton Star, in English and Spanish to keep all of our families informed of the variety of events at our school.

Thanks to the generous donation of our community partners, we will have free, brand new backpacks for each of our students on the first day of school.  We request each family donate $10, or what you are able, for classroom supplies for each child who attends our school.  It is easiest to deliver this donation directly to your child’s teacher.

Parents and families are a child’s first teacher and we are eager to partner with you.  There are many ways you get involved including:

    • Join our PTA and sign up for the variety of workshops we offer parents
    • Join our Site Council
    • Volunteer at school (all parent volunteers must complete the volunteer background process)
    • Get to know your child’s teacher and our curriculum

We have a terrific volunteer opportunity to help spruce up our school before the first day:

    • Community Cares Day on Saturday, August 27 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (please feel free to bring your own garden tools labeled with your name)

On Thursday, August 25 from 2:00-3:00 pm we will welcome students to Popsicles on the Playground, an informal opportunity to say hello before the first day of school.

As your child’s principal, I am eager to partner with you.  Should you have any questions, worries, or wonders, please do not hesitate to call me at 503.916.6277 or email me at dnerenberg@pps.net.    On behalf of the Sitton faculty and staff we look forward to a marvelous school year.

    Sincerely,
    Dana Nerenberg

    Dear PPS Families,

Over the summer, crews will be working in schools throughout the district to address health and safety issues, using funds from the bond that voters approved in May. At the same time, planning is under way for bigger projects to rebuild three high schools and a middle school. We wanted to give you an update on what is coming up.
