Duniway Update 9/24/21

Posted by Sarah Erickson on 9/24/2021

Dear Families,

Things are starting to settle down and we are finally settling into a routine.  At least as much as we can.  The students are doing great work and the staff is doing an amazing job with all their students.

I want to thank everyone who attended the Back-to-School Night on Tuesday. It was a huge success and we hope you received information regarding the class and the schedule.  Parent-teacher conferences will happen in November.  The teachers will be sending out information and where to sign up later next month.

Buses:  This week we had bus  #304 canceled on Thursday and Friday.  Hopefully, this will be resolved by next week.  We spoke with our Transportation Department and learned “ right now we are in a nation-wide driver shortage from long-hauler truckers to pizza delivery.  Bus drivers have been especially hard hit.  PPS currently has just enough drivers to cover routes (with staff driving), but no extra coverage.  Our standard is to have an extra 10% of drivers.  Without that buffer, if any driver calls in sick we simply do not have a driver available to cover that route”

We started our seating chart on the afternoon buses this weekl.  In the morning we are taking pictures of the kids to show where they are located.  This will assist us if and when we have another Covid case.

Volunteers:  Thanks to all of you who have volunteered at lunch.  Your help has proven to be invaluable.  Lunch runs smoother and it is nice to have the help.  Thank you so much.  It is very appreciated.

Free Weekly Covid Screening Program:  Don’t forget to check your child’s backpack for information and forms to sign up for the Covid screening test program.  Return the forms to us as soon as possible.  Remember there are two forms and both must be returned.  Information has gone out to you through school messenger.  Remember to CHECK THE BACKPACKS for the forms.

Our counselor, Ms. Jessy has been welcoming our new students to Duniway by holding a New Student Lemonade.  This is a time for brand new Duniway students 1st grade through 5th grade to ask questions and learn more about Duniway.  She does an amazing job and the students love attending. If you missed connecting with Ms. Jessy at Back To School Night, you can learn more about Duniway’s Counseling and Social Work Program here; https://sites.google.com/pps.net/duniway-counseling-social-work/home

I want to thank everyone for being supportive and understanding as we work through the Covid cases and protocols.  We are working hard to keep everyone safe.  We will notify you as soon as we can about the Covid cases at school.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Warmly,

Gene Bivens

Duniway Principal
