    Virtual Scholarship Writing Workshops: Mondays & Thursdays in October, 4:00 to 6:00 PM

    Starting October 7th, Scholarship Coach, Marshawna Williams, is hosting virtual workshops on Mondays and Thursday throughout the month of October. Attendees will learn tips and tricks to find money for college, how to write one essay for all scholarships, and enter to win a laptop and other prizes. Register online

     

    Portland College Access Fair 2024: Friday, October 18th from 1 to 2 PM at McMenamins Kennedy School

    PPS focal students, specifically students of color, low-income, and first-generation students, are invited to join 25 colleges and universities to learn about admissions, financial aid, student life, academics, and more. Throughout this 60-minute college fair, students will have the opportunity to engage with highly selective research universities, flagship public institutions, and liberal arts colleges from around the country. This is a free event and transportation from Grant will be provided. Space is limited and registration is required. 

    Participating universities include Barnard College, Caltech, Case Western Reserve University, Colby College, College of Holy Cross, Colorado College, Harvard College, Johns Hopkins University, MIT, Northwestern University, New York University, Princeton University, Rice University, Smith College, Swarthmore College, Tufts University, University of Chicago, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, University of Notre Dame, University of Southern California, Vanderbilt University, Wellesley College, Williams College, and Yale University. Registrants will automatically be added to the mailing lists of the colleges included in the program.

    Coalition for College Event - Ask Us Anything: College Applications: Tuesday, October 24th at 5:00 PM

    Have last-minute questions before you apply to college this fall? We’re calling all seniors to join us for this panel discussion to get application tips from admissions counselors at Coalition member schools. Bring along your questions and leave feeling ready to apply to college, regardless of what application you’re using. Featuring admissions counselors from Clark University, Syracuse University, Texas Christian University, and Vanderbilt University.

    Coalition for College Event - Completing the FAFSA: Tuesday, December 3rd at 5:00 PM

    Not sure where to begin with the FAFSA? Confused by the process or unfamiliar with certain terms? In this session, admissions and financial aid experts from Coalition schools will share tips to better prepare you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Bring along your questions and get answers to confidently fill out the FAFSA. Featuring admissions and financial aid counselors from Berea College, Bowdoin College, and Northwestern University.

     

    Free College Essay Online Workshops for Grant Students: Access until December 31st

    We're excited to be partnering with College Essay Guy this year to offer students a number of useful college application resources, including virtual workshops on how to write personal statements. The How to Write A Personal Statement Boot Camp, The College Application + Supplemental Essays Crash Course, and the How to Answer the UC Personal Insight Questions Crash Course sessions were recorded and students can access the recordings until December 31st. 

    How to register & access resources/recordings:

    2. Enter your name and email, and select Grant High School from the School/Organization list.
    3. You’re done! Put the dates and times in your calendar, and keep an eye on your email with the next steps and instructions for the assignments to complete and how to join the live events.
