Creativity, Action & Service
IB Diploma students are required to participate in and reflect upon extracurricular activities that are creative, active, and community service-oriented. This requirement fosters students' awareness and appreciation of life outside of academics. Students are required to participate in C.A.S. throughout the entire two years of the Diploma program. Students submit evidence of, and reflections about, their experiences in a personally designed portfolio.
Creativity: arts and other experiences that involve creative thinking which have a definite goal or outcome.
Action: physical exertions that contribute to a healthy lifestyle and provide a significant challenge.
Service: an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the students, where the rights, dignity and autonomy of all involved are respected. Political and religious activities may be included as long as the goals promote the well-being of all people, regardless of affiliation; therefore, political campaigning and religious proselytizing are not indentified as service activities for the IB C.A.S. requirement.
