Degrees and Certifications:
Kiante Holmes is a native of the Pacific Northwest. Graduating from Benson High school in 2006. Kiante graduated from Portland State University as a first-generation college student, with a double Bachelor's of Science in Black Studies and Criminal Justice in 2011. Kiante thought she wanted to be a probation officer, however, after working in corrections it was short-lived. Kiante has always had a passion for helping people through advocating, listening, and challenging biases and systems. Kiante then went on to get a job as a residential youth advocate where she soon realized she loved working with high-potential youth and often got them to challenge labels, which were often forced upon them. Kiante’s compassion and wanting to get more understanding of why individuals suffering from mental illness and addictions often landed them in the criminal justice system led her to a Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies from Portland State University. In 2015, Kiante graduated from Walden University with a Master's in Social Work. Her passion for learning and desire to always challenge herself has built her a very diverse work experience-- from working in alternative schools settings to crisis management, child welfare, addictions, mental health, intensive inpatient treatment, human trafficking, gang violence, foster care, and intensive home reunification services for families. Kiante especially loves working with and supporting youth because of her strong belief that children can become whatever they desire to be with the support of someone advocating for them and truly showing them that they care. Kiante is married to an educator who also teaches high school students. In addition, her passion shines through as she is also a foster parent, and an adoptive parent and is raising a child of her own who has special needs. Kiante truly embodies a social worker because she puts forth all her energy into finding all the available resources to support the needs of youth and their families. Kiante is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, a community-conscious - action-oriented organization. Kiante dreams of becoming a licensed social worker and opening a private practice focusing on advocating for families with special-needs children in 2021.
