Concert Band
Students will review fundamentals and study literature and techniques for brass and woodwinds. Emphasis will be on improving levels of performance and preparation for entry into Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble. Students will be expected to perform at major concerts, fall/winter Pep Band events and marching events. This is a performance and participatory based class. This class is intended for incoming freshman.
Symphonic BandStudents will learn intermediate to advanced fundamentals and study literature and techniques for brass and woodwinds. Emphasis will be on improving levels of performance and preparation for entry into Wind Ensemble. Students will be expected to perform at major concerts, fall/winter Pep Band events and marching events. This is a performance and participatory based class. This class is intended for Concert Band members from the previous year and Wind Ensemble members wishing to learn a 2nd instrument.
Wind SymphonyStudents will learn advanced techniques and study literature for brass and woodwinds. Emphasis will be on improving levels of performance and preparation for contests and festivals related to the State Solo and Ensemble Contest and the State Band Championships. In addition, these students will be provided opportunity for preparing auditions for All-State, All-Northwest Honor Groups and college music scholarships. Students will be expected to perform at major concerts, fall/winter Pep Band events and marching events. This is a performance and participatory based class. This class is intended for the most advanced musicians in the instrumental music program.
Percussion Tech
Percussion Ensemble provides an opportunity for all percussion students to participate in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and/or Wind Ensemble. Students will receive training in marching percussion and small percussion ensembles. Students will learn the concepts of rhythm, texture, balance, blend, and rudiments. Students will build skills on melodic percussion, membrane percussion, and auxiliary percussion instruments. Throughout the year, they will develop their role as members of smaller percussion ensembles, and as members of one of the larger ensembles (Concert, Symphonic or Wind Ensemble). Students will be expected to perform at major concerts, fall/winter Pep Band events and marching events. This is a performance and participatory based class. All percussion tech students are members of the Cleveland Band Program and the Cleveland Warrior Marching Band.
Jazz EnsembleStudents will build on previous experience with a variety of jazz styles (Swing, Latin, Funk, Fusion) in addition to further developing their improvisational skills. Advanced skills in listening, comping, building bass lines, analyzing chord progressions will be addressed in this class. Highly motivated members of this group will be encouraged to form Combos. Students will be expected to perform at major concerts, festival and community events.
