Inaugural Best of PPS Film Festival will celebrate student filmmaking

Two teachers wanted to find a way to celebrate the filmmaking accomplishments of their students. That was the genesis of the first Best of PPS Film Festival that will be held Sunday starting at 4 p.m. at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd.).

Schools throughout PPS welcomed more than 3,500 first-time kindergarteners to classes last week. At Rose City Park Elementary School, the older kids lined the halls clapping in the kindergarteners as they began their education journey as proud PPS students.

This past Saturday a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the opening of the newly modernized Grant High School. Grant was completed after a two-year construction period and is the last project from the landmark 2012 School Improvement Bond.

Employees from Recology turned out in force recently to help get Ockley Green Middle School ready for the 2019-20 school year. Staff from Recology (an employee-owned resource recovery and landfill diversion company) and their families, along with their colleagues from Washington and California, gardened, painted, landscaped and cleaned Ockley Green’s campus and also donated school supplies and inspirational posters for the school year. Thank you to a great community partner.
