Students who rode a school bus on Wednesday, Feb. 26, might have noticed their driver wearing a distinct piece of clothing: a bright pink shirt with the words “Kindness Starts Here.” The unique attire was part of PPS drivers’ commitment to combatting bullying.
Bridger students do their part to save the planet At Bridger K-8, Ms. Shonkwiler’s fifth-grade class is passionate about saving the planet. Some of the 11-year-olds even call themselves climate activists. Their activism includes spearheading recycling efforts at their school, and making bees wax wraps. The wraps are a replacement for plastic that is polluting the oceans and killing animals. So far, the students have raised $4,500 for a field trip later this spring to the Oregon Coast. On the beach, they plan to continue their work by tracking and removing plastic for the Surfrider Foundation.
Community members invited to apply for committee that will recommend Southeast boundaries With work about to start in Portland Public Schools’ effort to balance our boundaries and programs, we are seeking community members to serve on a committee to help guide the project in Southeast Portland – the first phase of the district-wide effort.
