PPS Coronavirus Update: March 6
3/6/2020Dear PPS Families and Staff,
We continue to communicate daily with the Oregon Health Authority, Multnomah County, and the Oregon Department of Education, regarding coronavirus. Our cross-functional core team is meeting every day to ensure that our practices and policies are in line with the situation as it evolves. In addition:
- We are staying on top of cleaning supply inventory needs at schools and have placed large orders to try to keep items like disinfecting cleaners and disinfecting wipes (e.g. Clorox, Lysol wipes) in stock. We are currently delivering these additional supplies to our schools as we receive them from our vendors.
- We have articulated and shared clear protocols to custodians regarding prioritizing and cleaning high-touch surfaces in classrooms and common areas.
- Our bus cleaning protocols have been adjusted and enhanced by providing additional disinfecting wipes.
- We are working with Multnomah County to have a number of our central office staff trained on answering coronavirus-related questions in all PPS-supported languages, in the coming days.
- CDC handwashing posters in all PPS-supported languages were sent to schools today.
- As we have since coronavirus first showed up in Oregon, we are following our public health agencies’ guidance regarding group events, including assemblies and athletic events: as of now, we are going forward with these events.
If you are wondering what role you and your student can play, we want to reiterate that you can best support our proactive efforts by washing hands frequently, covering mouths when coughing or sneezing, and using hand sanitizer. Those experiencing symptoms of the cold or flu should stay at home as directed by public health guidelines.
The links below are great resources, and we continue to add information to pps.net/coronavirus. Among the latest additions to our webpage are PDFs of the posters that went to schools today, and an online form where you can submit a question or concern. We will monitor that account and answer as many questions as we can in upcoming messages. Finally, you can click here to access a comprehensive resource document for families and students, courtesy of the Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Department of Education.
The safety, health, and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority. We are working hard and working in partnership with public health experts, to minimize both the spread of coronavirus and disruption to schools. Thank you.
