     HBCU & Civil Rights Tour

    Greetings,

It is with great excitement that I announce that GEAR UP is organizing a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) & Civil Rights Tour during spring break.

This year, the HBCU & Civil Rights Tour is open to juniors & seniors and takes place between March 26th – April 1st, leading a group of up to 45 Madison, Franklin, and Roosevelt students to explore historically Black colleges and universities and visit historic civil rights monuments & sites in Georgia and Alabama.

Given the snow days and cancellations of some events, GEAR UP is extending the HBCU Application Deadline to Tuesday, January 17that 8:15am. Applications must be received by me by that time as we will begin reviewing them immediately so that we can make a decision by the 20th and inform students on the 23rd.

Since we were only able to have one Info Session, I will be combining the Application Workshops with Informational Session. We are having our second one on Tuesday, January 10th from 3:15-6:00pm. If you know any students who are interested in attending the HBCU trip, please encourage them to find me in the College & Career Center or to attend this workshop!

If you know a student who is impacted by or interested in learning more about systemic racism or is interested in attending HBCU’s, please direct them to seek more information at the College & Career Center.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Thank you,

    Jessaca Willis, MSW
