Student Attendance Policy
Attendance Policy (Oregon Law)
Students are expected to attend school and classes daily and on time. Parents/guardians can report absences or tardies by email, phone, note, or voicemail. (See Contact us)
Notification by Parent/Guardian:
Absences must be reported verbally, in writing, or by marking the student as absent in ParentVUE prior to the absence or within three days of the student's return to class. Parents/guardians should select the appropriate absence reason in ParentVUE. Please note ParentVue is for ALL day absences only.
Attendance Support
If attendance becomes irregular, the school will contact the family and may suggest alternative programs, attendance support plans and interventions. This is called a re-engagement meeting.
10-Day Withdrawal Policy:
Students must be withdrawn after 11 consecutive full-day absences, effective on the 10th day of absence (e.g. medical leave, maternity leave, extended vacation, early year-end departure). To learn more about this policy head to ODE for more info.Legal Requirement:
Oregon law (ORS 339.010–339.020) requires students ages 7–18 to attend school regularly. It is the legal responsibility of both parents/guardians and students to ensure consistent, timely attendance.NEW Attendance Policy for ALL students
ALL students must maintain an 85% attendance for the first 60 days of each semester. Why the change?
- Attendance usually drops as the year goes on, so we want you to start strong.
- The first two months cover the basics that the rest of the semester builds on.
- Missing early days makes it harder to catch up later.
- Students who show up early stay more engaged, pass more classes, and are more likely to graduate.
- Building good habits now makes the rest of the semester easier.
Senior Prom Attendance Policy
ALL seniors must have an 85% for each semester in order to attend prom.
Excused and unexcused absences will be combined. Excused attendance that will be considered are:
- Standing appointments — ex: PT, Therapy, Counseling – these will need to be verified and excused with a doctor's note provided.
- College visits will need proof of visits — EX: itinerary, confirmation of visit, acceptance letter.
60-Day Rule & Attendance — SENIOR ONLY
This will be used to support students not meeting 85%.
In order for us to make this equitable, you all will have the opportunity to use this time to increase your attendance. Our goal is not to take prom away but to support your participation.
- 1:1 attendance support meetings
- Senior attendance data will be provided to ensure participation.
This means that anyone at 65% will still have an opportunity to bring their attendance up.
