Personal Statement

Background:

My teaching/counseling path started when I was 18. I was a hiking and science counselor in New Mexico. In my first "real job", I worked on a capital fundraising Campaign for Yale, my college alma mater. Next I was a middle school English teacher and Director of Development at McDonogh School (pk-12) in Maryland. Later in my career, I worked at the University of Portland (UP) as an adjunct professor in business (finance, cross-cultural management, and leadership). Before my stint at UP, I worked in business for 25 years in various industries -- textile manufacturing (2 years), wireless communications distribution (13 years), and investment management (10 years). I have many years of experience serving on public company and non-profit boards of directors and I bring "real world" experience to our business students. This is my seventeenth year as a teacher and coach and my eighth year at Lincoln.

This Year:

For the 2022-2023 academic year, I am teaching CTE (Career & Technical Ed. Classes): Introduction to Personal Finance, Introduction to Marketing, Personal Finance & Investment (dual credit), and Student Academic Center. The business dual credit classes are in collaboration with Portland Community College. Over the past seven years, in addition to my current classes, I have taught College & Career Exploration, Creative Writing - Fiction, Urban Exploration, Journalism-Media Studies, Intro to Business, Construction Jobsite Management and Intro to Accounting.

Other:

I serve as a volunteer assistant coach on the Lincoln wrestling team. I am the faculty advisor for the Lincoln Chapter of National Honor Society, CommuniCare Club, Cards Cook, Investment Club, Outstanding Writers without Limits - O.W.L., and other student-run clubs. My hobbies include hiking, running, cooking, gardening, singing and writing.
