Background: Starting as a hiking and science counselor in New Mexico, my first "real job" was as a fundraiser in San Francisco. Next I was a middle school English teacher at McDonogh School in Maryland. Later in my career I worked at the University of Portland as an adjunct professor in business (finance, cross-cultural management, and leadership). Before my employment as an adjunct professor, I worked in business for 25 years in various industries -- textile manufacturing (3 years), wireless communications distribution (12 years), and investment management (10 years). I have many years of experience on public company boards and non-profit boards and I bring "real world" experience to our business students. This is my fifteenth year as a teacher and coach and my sixth year at Lincoln.
This Year: For 2020-2021 I am teaching classes in Freshman Leadership & Inquiry (FLI), Business Communication (dual credit), Introduction to Marketing, Construction Management and Personal Finance (dual credit). The business dual credit classes are in collaboration with the Portland Community College. Over the past five years I have also taught College & Career Exploration, Creative Writing - Fiction, Urban Exploration, Journalism-Media Studies, Intro to Personal Finance, and Intro to Accounting.
Other: I serve as a volunteer assistant coach on the Lincoln wrestling team. I am the faculty advisor for the Lincoln Chapter of National Honor Society, CommuniCare Club, Investment Club, Outstanding Writers without Limits - O.W.L., and other student-run clubs.
