Check in on your school's energy use with the PPS Utility Dashboard. Using the data for a class lesson? Let us know at sustainability@pps.net.

What we do:
-
Utilize renewable energy: use of clean, non-fossil fuel energy sources that are constantly replenished by natural processes, such as solar, wind, and hydroelectricity.
-
Conserve energy: the prevention of wasteful energy usage, usually through human behavior change and/or automated building controls.
-
Energy efficiency measures: reducing energy consumption by using building systems, equipment and appliances that use less energy to attain the same output.

Learn more about our Renewable Energy projects
Renewable energy is energy generated from resources that naturally replenish on a human timescale and include solar energy, wind power, hydropower, geothermal energy, and bio energy. Renewable energy is most effective when both energy conservation and efficiency measures are implemented.
Solar energy projects can be found at 18 schools through the Solar Roof Project, Solar 4R Schools, and other grant funded programs. PPS has one wind power project at Skyline Elementary School. -
Learn more about our Energy Efficiency initiatives
Energy efficiency means using energy more effectively and is frequently a technological change, such as switching to programmable thermostats that monitor temperature based on occupancy or replacing incandescent light bulbs with LEDs. Efficiency looks to use less energy while providing the same level of comfort, performance, or convenience users are used to. Energy efficiency is most effective once energy conservation efforts are in effect.
Funding: SB1149
The Oregon Department of Energy’s Senate Bill 1149 Energy Program distributes funds to the District to improve efficiency through energy reduction and conservation capital projects. PPS has used this funding to perform comprehensive energy audits on all of our facilities, and continues to implement the projects identified by the audits.

What you can do:
-
Check out the Data Dashboard to track your school's energy usage
-
Conduct a student Energy Audit in your classroom
-
Use the Power Patrol activity to remind others to turn lights off when not in use
-
Reduce the plug load by limiting the number of personal appliances in classrooms
