High School Course Syllabi
Course Syllabi shall be written for courses in grades 9 through 12 and shall be available to students, staff, parents, the district school board and other interested individuals in accordance with the State Board of Education Policy as defined in OAR 581-022-1130 and district guidelines (from PPS Board Policy 4.20.042-P). Courses being taught at middle school level for high school credit must also have a syllabus. All approved and published syllabi are public documents.
Teachers will create the syllabus online then submit it electronically to the school administrator. Based on feedback from teachers and administrators, we will NOT be using the online syllabi portal. Instead, teachers should create their syllabi and email it to their administrator for feedback. Once it is finalized, it will be uploaded into a google folder and then be available on the school website for students, families, and community. Previous templates and resources can be accessed below. Teachers can find the scope and sequence of standards for various courses in the Atlas Curriculum Management System.
Each teacher will have a syllabus for each course. The school administrator will provide input and/or approve the syllabus each year at the start of school. Syllabi for each school will be posted on the school website by school staff. The requirements below can be in any order and set up to best meet the needs of students and families.
As we head into the fall, having a clear syllabi that is easily accessible to families will be more important than ever. Families and students need to know course expectations, grading policies, and how to reach the teacher. As you design your syllabi, please make sure families can easily find information.
