    Dear Colleagues,

    I am pleased to announce that Dr. Liane Kehaulani O’Banion has accepted our offer to become Portland Public School’s Director of Title IX Policy, Training & Compliance.

    In this crucial position, Dr. O’Banion will take the lead in assuring that the district complies with Title IX, the federal law that prohibits gender discrimination in schools that receive federal funding. Dr. O'Banion will make sure students, families, educators, administrators and the PPS community are provided quality learning and development opportunities and will assist in investigations on Title IX issues.

    Dr. O’Banion comes to PPS from Portland State University, where she has worked since 2001 and has served as Director of the Learning Center and previously as Associate Director since 2016. She is a highly-trained Title IX investigator with multiple credentials, including from the Oregon Attorney General’s Task Force for Sexual Assault Prevention, Title IX investigation/compliance certificate from Fischer & Phillips and a forensics certificate applying the FETI (Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview) protocol in investigation and trauma interviewing.

    Dr. O’Banion earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a minor in Special Education, from the University of Oregon, and two degrees from Portland State – a Master of Science in Postsecondary, Adult & Continuing Education, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership.

    She will work within the Office of Student Support Services, and will report to James Loveland, Senior Director of Student Success & Health.
