• George, Harriet Tubman and Kellogg Middle Schools to Remain in Temporary Distance Learning Until February 1

    Dear Community,

After careful consideration and in consultation with school principals, we are extending the temporary distance learning return date until Tuesday, February 1 for the following three middle schools: George, Harriet Tubman and Kellogg.

While we recognize and prefer that every student be in an in-person environment, we made this decision to prioritize the health and safety of students and staff, as well as to better ensure a continuity of learning. We continue to see high numbers of positive cases of COVID-19 in our broader community, and believe this additional week in temporary distance learning will support our three schools.

Temporary distance learning will end on Thursday, January 27. We will welcome all staff and students back to campuses for  in-person learning on Tuesday, February 1 for the start of the third quarter

Reminder: Friday, January 28 and Monday, January 31 are professional development and educator planning days, with no classes for students.

During temporary distance learning, a limited number of in-person student support opportunities and extracurricular activities will take place on-campus.  Your principal will share more details about these limited on-site activities with your community.

We will continue to provide breakfast and lunch for daily pickup at these three schools.

Lastly, this year, your student was issued a PPS Chromebook. If your student needs a device and/or internet hotspot, please contact your student’s school to be issued one. If you need to contact the tech support desk, you can do so by either sending an email to support@pps.net or calling our support line at 503-916-3375.

If you have any questions, please contact your school.

Thank you so much for your understanding and patience as we navigate the current challenges to students and staff at Portland Public Schools.
