• Important health update for the Hayhurst School community

    Dear Hayhurst Community,

Recently, PPS hired an independent third party to test lead paint levels in two of the classrooms at Hayhurst. In those classrooms, there were very elevated lead levels noted in the window troughs most likely from paint chips accumulating over a number of years.

While we do not yet have the final report, in an abundance of caution, we are directing the school to keep all windows closed until remediation can occur.  PPS is working to quickly identify an abatement contractor to clean the troughs.  We will keep you updated as this abatement is scheduled. To keep classrooms cool, we will be providing fans to the school.

Families and staff who are interested in a lead blood screening can order a home test kit from ZRT Laboratory at 1-866-600-1636 or 503-466-2445, weekdays 6 am to 5 pm, or info@zrtlab.com.  In addition to providing the student’s name, address, grade level and school name, parents will need to provide their child’s student ID. If you do not know your child’s student ID, simply enter “11111”.  Staff will need to provide their name, address, and PPS employee ID number.

    Thank you,
    Courtney Wilton
    Interim Executive Director of Operations
