Students in their final year of middle school in Portland Public Schools will have a chance to see their future high schools when info nights are held throughout the district from October to December. Neighborhood, focus-option and alternative high schools will give students and families the opportunity to tour the campus, meet staff and learn more about the academic and athletic programs offered.

In PPS, high school students attend their neighborhood school (which you can look up on our interactive map). Or they may apply to attend Benson Polytechnic High School, Jefferson High School-Middle College for Advanced Studies or the Metropolitan Learning Center. Applications for Benson, Jefferson and MLC are accepted during the Nov. 5-Dec. 3 lottery cycle; they will be available at the Lottery and Transfer webpage.

Families with children in fifth grade should also know that if they would like their child to attend a focus option school in the middle school years, the period to apply for lotteries has been moved to an earlier date to match the high school cycle, Nov. 5-Dec. 3. In previous years, those dates were later in the school year, on the same dates as the elementary school lotteries that start in February. Middle school lottery applications will be available on the Lottery and Transfer webpage.

If you are unable to attend an eighth-grade information night, some schools offer tours or the opportunity to shadow a student. Families can call a school for more information or go online to learn about a school’s events and schedules. Click on a school name below to go to its website.
