    Franklin High teacher Mercedes Muñoz wins Oregon Teacher of the Year award

    PIL boys soccer continues to heat up with Cleveland’s big win over Grant

    The Portland Interscholastic League already had been making statewide noise in boys soccer, with Grant rising to No. 1 in the OSAA Class 6A coaches poll last month. Then the Generals ran into another PIL upstart, Cleveland, which handed them a 4-0 defeat last week. It was another sign of the league’s growing strength and competitiveness.

    REAHL Toolkit offers information, resources to help students with substance use

    The Portland Public Schools program created to support students facing substance use and mental health challenges is offering a new tool. The REAHL Online Toolkit gathers information and accredited resources to serve as a starting point for students, families and staff looking for additional strategies and supports.

    TechSmart helps young students use technology to learn

    TechSmart, a program that helps the youngest students in Portland Public Schools learn to use technology to their best academic advantage, has touched more than 7,000 students in 20 schools. The program was made possible by a grant from the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission, originally for $5.1 million, and recently with another $2.9 million extending the program to 2022.

    Rise in measles, whooping cough prompts reminder: Get your student immunized

    A recent uptick in cases of measles and whooping cough in children in the Portland area is prompting a reminder for families to keep their students up to date for vaccines.

    Reminder – no classes Friday: October 11 is the first statewide in-service day of the 2019-20 school year. That means no classes Friday, and the weekly slate of high school football games will move to Thursday this week. See the full district calendar for future in-service days.
