Max DeLashmutt

This year will be Max DeLashmutt’s fourth year at Ida B Wells and  his seventh  teaching. DeLashmutt started teaching straight out of college at a middle school in a remote village in Ghana. He describes his time in Ghana as “the most amazing thing I’ve ever done.” DeLashmutt’s favorite thing about working here at IBW is the math department. He loves all the other math teachers, and he says they hang out outside of school, and  eat lunch together. He says it makes you feel really great to have that kind of community in your department. What inspired DeLashmutt to become a teacher is from when he was in high school,  and was a “troubled kid who skipped a lot of school.” When all of his teachers doubted him and saw him as a problem, he had a teacher that made him feel like just another student who had as much potential as any other kid. This teacher made Delashmutt feel really special and he wanted at school to become a teacher more like that. Outside of school, DeLashmutt enjoys camping and traveling. During summer, you can find him exploring a foreign country and making new memories.
