Degrees and Certifications:
I grew up in the NW corner of Georgia and attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY where I earned a B.A. in history. After college, my love for history and mentoring youth took me down a natural path to education. I earned an M.Ed. at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and taught high school history and social studies for 10 years. I came to Oregon in 2000 from Colorado and taught at Sunset High School in Beaverton, OR, and eventually, became invested in creating and supporting school systems that center student's cultural identity and their intellectual, emotional, and physical well-being. In 2006, I transitioned to the role of a school administrator and have served as both a high school Vice Principal and Principal since. At Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School, I am the 10th grade administrator, support teaching and learning for the Math, Arts, Language Arts, and ELL (English Language Learners) Departments. Additionally, I facilitate the No Place for Hate Peer Facilitator Program and support the Community Equity Council. This is my 25th year working in large, comprehensive public high schools. Both of my children graduated from Ida B. Wells High School and I remain deeply invested in this work and our school community.
