Degrees and Certifications:
Vice Principal, students in grade 10
I grew up in the NW corner of Georgia and, with my family's support, attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY where I earned a B.A. in history. After college, my love for history, telling stories, and youth mentoring work took me down a natural path to education. I earned an M.Ed. at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and taught high school history and social studies for 10 years. Since my first teaching job in Denver, CO in the Cherry Creek School District, I have always worked in large comprehensive public high schools. I came to Oregon in 2000 from Colorado and taught at Sunset High School in Beaverton, OR, and eventually, I became invested in creating and supporting school systems that center students' cultural identity and their intellectual, emotional, and physical well-being. In 2006 I earned a school administrator's license from Portland State University and have served in the role of Vice Principal and Principal since that time. I so enjoy working as the Vice Principal in my community neighborhood high school, where both my daughters attend(ed). At Ida B. Wells High School, I am the 10th grade administrator. I support teaching and learning for the Math, Arts, Health.PE, and ELL (English Language Learners) Departments. I also facilitate our school Climate Team and No Place for Hate Peer Facilitator program.
