DOOR PROPPING CLARIFICATION
(Admin Connection for 5/14/19)Below is the determination of whether door propping is allowed, or not:
Standard Q was an agreement from the 1990s between PPS and PFB. This allowed PPS buildings to be partially upgraded for improved egress corridors. The schools that required Standard Q upgrades are allowed to prop doors open with a gallon jug filled with sand. Wood or other door wedges are not allowed at any site. The Standard Q Schools are listed here.
At all other sites, no doors can be propped open in any way, unless propped open by a magnetic hold open tied into the fire alarm system. When the alarm sounds, the hold open is released and the door will close and latch.
