Bike Rodeo
-
A bike rodeo is an event that provides elementary and middle school children with the opportunity to learn, practice, and demonstrate bike handling skills in a fun, safe, and encouraging atmosphere. Repair clinics can also be available to assist with minor repair needs and to teach bicycle repair skills to students and families.
Numerous obstacle courses are set up with chalk and traffic cones. Adult volunteers run each activity station or obstacle course, with the objective of teaching the children how to better control their bikes. Interested in coordinating a bike rodeo at your school? Consider applying for a Metro micro-grant to help fund activities and prize incentives for students participating. Contact Shane Nevius, PPS Safe Routes to School Coordinator, at snevius@pps.net for more information on bike rodeos and how the district can support an event at your school.
