Learning and Credit Options

  • Welcome

Virtual Scholars is an option for high school students who want control of their own learning experience with support from a highly qualified teacher in a lab setting. Students should not expect that online coursework will be easier; it is just as rigorous as regular "brick and mortar" classroom work. Some students take more or less time to learn and retain new skills and content.

Credit by Exam (CBE) is a process for ascertaining student achievement and awarding credit for a particular course which is normally offered within the student's high school, without the student having to enroll or otherwise participate in the course.

LCO NonPPS Options is an option for high school students who may need to take a NonPPS Options. This option begins with the student's school counselor.

The current Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook can be found at bottom of the following page: https://www.pps.net/Page/1065.  The District is collaborating with the Portland Association of Teachers to update this document to align with recent changes in State Law (SB 553). All schools are concurrently engaged in a process of creating school specific School Climate Handbooks in collaboration with staff, students, families, and community partners to meet the unique needs of each school community.
